Deborah Woodley, the mother of former UFC star Tyron Woodley, was in a class of her own in the recent duel between her son and Jake Paul. While Woodley and Paul exchanged some harsh words, Deborah had a heartwarming encounter with the YouTuber’s mother, Pamela Ann Stepnick.
Deborah is often seen greeting her son’s rivals with the utmost dignity and respect. Their great humility stems from the humble origins of the Woodley family. She raised Tyron Woodley as a single mother after her husband, Sylvester, left her.
According to Yahoo Sports, Deborah used to work as a nanny to support her family. She also took a job as a cleaner as a source of extra income. Cleaning office buildings and restaurants at midnight used to be part of the routine for the 68-year-old.
Raising thirteen children alone was no easy task for Deborah. Given the ruthless nature of the neighborhood her kids grew up in, she needed to make sure they stayed away from all chore.
“I was a loving mother, but I was tough. I had to be tough because I knew if I spoiled them all, if I spoiled them and went along with all of this, they would use that as an excuse and it was me. ”I didn’t want my son in trouble. I wanted to make sure he had a good reputation and that his citizenship was excellent in school so that he could get a scholarship. I didn’t want him walking the streets, “Deborah Woodley told the UFC.
When Deborah Woodley hugged Darren Till and Kamaru Usman with warm hugs
Tyron Woodley established himself as one of the greatest world champions of his generation when he defeated Darren Till at UFC 228. After their clash, Deborah Woodley approached the Liverpool-based fighter and showered him with affection.
After their delightful meeting, Till had nothing but respect for Deborah. He said:
“You see a man’s mother, you see a man’s daughter, you won’t stand there and you won’t respect her. Because I hate your son or whatever, (well) I hate you, it doesn’t work that way. This is his family, I have my family. She only gave me advice. It was comforting. She gave me a nice hug and I said to her: ‘Be proud of your son, your son hit me tonight.’ “
After three successful title defenses, Tyron Woodley’s next opponent was Kamaru Usman. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ dominated the fight and won the fight by unanimous decision.
Deborah Woodley later interacted with Usman by hugging him and reminding the welterweight champion that it is now his turn to shine. Usman couldn’t help but shed tears at the warmth of Deborah Woodley.
