Darby Allin has become one of the rising stars of AEW and the wrestling business in general. AEW boss Tony Khan wanted to book him and Sammy Guevara in a Steamboat Savage match-up.

Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat and ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage fought in one of the best matches in wrestling history at WrestleMania 3. It was a timeless encounter that continues to this day.

During a media call recently, Tony Khan announced that he would like to do a similar program with Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin.

“It’s amazing that I was on the Jericho cruise with Darby, thinking about including the story with him and Sammy in the 2020 Revolution, Sammy and you may remember that Darby got the skateboard on his neck and couldn’t speak and I wanted to make an epic comeback and he came back when Moxley of the Inner Circle and Jeff Cobb got beaten up in Atlanta and he got one of the biggest pops, period. It’s been an amazing comeback since Darby Allin got this hot, “said Tony Khan.

Darby Allin is thriving in AEW

Darby Allin is one of AEW’s greatest success stories and he has repaid the company’s trust in spades. Allin has had high profile matches against Cody Rhodes, Jon Moxley and Miro while holding the TNT championship once.

Sting has taken the rising star under his wing and the two men are almost inseparable on AEW shows. The former TNT champ has been voted CM Punk’s first opponent in over seven years, and it shows that Tony Khan and AEW have a lot of confidence in him.
