Stardew Valley developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone announced the Stardew Valley Cup, a $ 40,000 prize pool tournament. The tournament will consist of respected Stardew Valley content creators and speed runners competing in teams.
The Stardew Valley Cup is hosted by ConcernedApe in collaboration with Zach “Unsurpassable Z” Hartman, who is himself a Stardew Valley content creator.
Since its release in 2016, Stardew Valley has not only been a meteoric success as a video game, but has also managed to generate cultural influence.
The game’s sole developer, Eric Barone, who goes by the pseudonym ConcernedApe, was a genius in creating Stardew Valley.
It doesn’t end there as he has also been helping his game with new content, multiplayer support, and multi-platform releases over the years. He also created the entire prize pool for the Stardew Valley Cup.
Stardew Valley Cup: details
The Stardew Valley Cup Main Event begins September 4 at 12:00 PM ET / 4:00 PM GMT. The main event will be cast by ConcernedApe and Unsurpassable Z and broadcast live on The unmatched Z’s Twitch channel.
There will be four teams, each made up of four Stardew Valley content creators. These teams compete against each other to get the most points. Teams earn points by completing a long list of pre-defined goals set for the event.
The goals in the game are many and varied, and even the best Stardew Valley content creators need to strategize in the days leading up to the event.
Since its inception, Stardew Valley has delighted players with its quiet gameplay and the cozy atmosphere of Pelican Town. Although the min-max aspect has always been in the game, it’s a wonder that the relaxing farm simulation turned into an esports event.
ConcernedApe mentioned that this is “the first” official Stardew Valley Cup, which means there will be more such events in the future. Suffice it to say, Stardew Valley fans will be delighted with this refreshing news. You will appreciate this bespoke event even more as it is cast and hosted by the beloved developer himself.
