Registeel is what Pokemon GO is closest to an impenetrable wall, and Trainers with this defensive deity are going to be really hard to beat.

Now is the time for trainers to choose Registeel as it will be featured in raids and presented in its own raid lesson on Wednesday. A Defense Rating of 285 should be reason enough for anyone to start raiding this Pokémon.

In addition, Registeel has an effective move pool, albeit a bit interesting. It used to be at the top of the Big League food chain until it was ousted by Galarian Stunfisk and Bastiodon. It can still handle a lot of Pokémon in the Great League as well as the Ultra League. Throw these moves on Registeel and it will take easy profits.

What moves does Registeel need to defeat opposing Pokémon?

Registeel has one of the most unorthodox fast moves, but it works strangely. Although it only has 1 base power, Lock On is the quick choice for Registeel. The reason coaches want to use this incredibly weak pull is because of the energy it generates.

Lock On charges 6 energies and is also very fast (300 ms). This means that this Pokémon could have a powerful move like Focus Blast of Hyper Beam in five seconds, charged and ready to go.

The other options, Metal Claw and Rock Smash, have much higher damage output. Registeel only has 143 attacks, so these attacks will do minimal damage anyway. Registeel benefits more from quickly recharging its more powerful attacks.

The most important learning step for Registeel is Focus Blast. This Pokémon really needs to capitalize on the energy gain with a strong charge movement, and it’s hard to find a stronger movement than Focus Blast. It might not be a STAB, but the 140 base damage still makes a dent in most Pokémon.

Focus Blast also allows Registeel to play a bigger role in the meta. It is clear that the main Steel Pokémon in the Grand League are Galarian Stunfisk and Bastiodon. With Focus Blast, Registeel can defeat these two looming threats. While it does mean Registeel to do some super effective mud shots, it doesn’t take long to charge up a Focus Blast and win the 1v1 matchup with the other Steel guys.

Registeel’s second move was supposed to be Flash Cannon, but this move is really only useful because of STAB. Since this is a Steel-type Pokémon, it would be a shame if it didn’t move to meet the fairy types it was supposed to counter.

Flash Cannon is one of the weaker moves compared to others that require a full energy bar. It makes up for this by being a bit faster and harder to dodge, but most coaches would probably prefer something with more force. However, Flash Cannon can still do decent damage and finish off weakened enemies.
