Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik believes the best batter of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup could be a duel between two of the most dangerous white ball openers in Rohit Sharma and David Warner.

The duo have made a name for themselves as modern greats and will try to have a strong tournament to give their team the best chance of winning the T20 World Cup.

Speaking to former West Indian skipper Darren Sammy on the ICC’s official website, Dinesh Karthik explained why both Rohit Sharma and Warner will be the rackets to watch out for at the flagship event.

The fact that they open the innings gives them the maximum chance of having an impact.

“The best batter of the tournament will be a close conversation between Rohit Sharma and David Warner. They both open the innings. Both are solid players. I would bet any of them. Both are very hungry,” said Dinesh, commenting on Karthik.

Rohit Sharma and World Cups, they are synonymous: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik also stated that Rohit Sharma simply showed up on the biggest stage. The 34-year-old also proved this at the 2019 World Cup, where he met five centuries and led India to the semi-finals.

Kathik reckons that Rohit Sharma’s bats will once again be crucial if India is to take a long position in the T20 World Cup. He has the ability to score in big games and can be the biggest match winner for India in the UAE.

“Rohit Sharma and World Cups are synonyms. They just love each other. They find ways to help each other. If India is to do well, he has to fire for them at the top,” concluded Karthik.

India will open its T20 World Cup campaign against arch rivals Pakistan on October 24th in Dubai.
