Team India held its first training session under light at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo before the first ODI against Sri Lanka on July 18th (Sunday).
In a video uploaded to Twitter by the BCCI, the cricketers were seen during an intensive training session. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who assumes responsibility as the team’s vice-captain, was sweating on the nets. Meanwhile, young Mumbai Indian batsman Ishan Kishan looked calm and collected with the bat.

After the meeting, interim head coach Rahul Dravid was seen speaking to the cricketers in a gathering. This will be his first assignment as India head coach and the former India skipper will try to build on his reputation as India A coach.
The young cricketers are very excited to work with Dravid. Suryakumar Yadav recently said that having the former cricketer around is a big boost for the team.
“Rahul Sir, that this camp is about every individual is the biggest boost. So it’s really good to have him with you. A very calm and relaxed man and I’m really looking forward to this tournament,” said Suryakumar Yadav .
It is important to feel like you are playing under lights: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Team India’s vice-captain for this series, emphasized the importance of training under light before the series. In the video uploaded by the BCCI, Bhuvneshwar said:
“It was especially important for the batsmen to feel like they were playing under the lights as it will be a little difficult for them to judge the ball. Two sessions before the first ODI will be very helpful for the cricketers to get used to to accustom.”
Ishan Kishan, who is on his second international tour, also shared the same feelings. The young southpaw explained:
“It was a bit difficult for everyone at first, but later on I think we settled in very well.”
India will play three ODIs against Sri Lanka, followed by as many T20Is matches on the current tour.
