Tonight’s opening segment of NXT has certainly frenzied the WWE Universe as Samoa Joe has returned to the black and gold brand.
William Regal, general manager of NXT, opened the show and spoke about the brand’s history and was clearly emotional when he spoke. Before he could announce his resignation, Regal was interrupted by NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Scarlett.
Kross drove down Regal and said he knew this was going to happen and wanted Regal to let him know he was right and gave up. Before William Regal could answer, Samoa Joe’s music struck and the Samoan Submission Machine made its way to the ring.
Samoa Joe becomes GM William Regal’s Enforcer on WWE NXT
Samoa Joe said William Regal wanted to talk to him about something and Regal said he would rather have done it in the background. The former IC champion asked Joe to take over as general manager of NXT.
Surprisingly, the Samoan Submission Machine turned down the position and offered a counter-proposal as he would make sure Regal could do his job and Joe would make sure he got the respect he deserved.
Regal said they could do that, but Joe wouldn’t compete or get physical with anyone on the NXT list unless provoked. The former US champion accepted these terms and then approached Kross and told him to leave the ring.
It’s clear that Samoa Joe is still not eligible to compete within the square circle, so returning to WWE in such a role makes perfect sense. It will be interesting to see if Joe will return to active competition at some point.
