According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Portland Trail Blazers have selected candidates for the role of senior assistant coach.

The list includes former Chicago Bulls / LA Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro, former Washington Wizards / Thunder coach Scott Brooks, and LA Lakers assistant Lionel Hollins.

Vinny Del Negro is currently an analyst at NBA TV and last held a coaching role in 2013. He was the head coach of the “Lob City-Era” LA Clippers, and this is where the current Portland Trail Blazers are frontline executive Neil Olshey and he developed a bond.

Scott Brooks is another revered name that is among the potential candidates for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Fired from the Washington Wizards after a post-season exit, Brooks is the most seasoned name on the list after serving as head coach in the NBA for 12 years.

The third name on the Portland Trail Blazers’ radar is Lionel Hollins, a former player who won a championship with the LA Lakers in 2020 as an assistant coach.

The Blazers and Hollins go way back when he played for the franchise for five years in the ’70s. Hollins’ # 14 jersey was retired by the Blazers in 2007.

The Portland Trail Blazers split from Terry Stotts after a disappointing first-round playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Stotts had a disappointing time with the Blazers as the team didn’t even make the NBA finals and only made the conference finals once.

NBA rumors suggest Damian Lillard is frustrated with his situation with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Lillard’s disappointment has played a major role in the changes in the Blazers’ coaching division, suggesting the franchise doesn’t want to risk the likelihood of the point guard’s exit this summer.
