The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India launched the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The portal was established for providing scholarships to the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and minority students. Various students from these categories can apply for the scholarship online under different schemes. But there will be a lot many students confused about how to apply for this scholarship? Goal and benefits of NSP scholarships

NSP scholarships were established so that the deserving students receive their scholarships timely. The system ensured that the students can easily fill up the application form for receiving the scholarship. It is made as a common platform for knowing details about scholarship plans by central and state governments.

Various schemes under National Scholarship Portal

The various schemes provided under National Scholarship Portal can be categorized into three broad categories:

Central Schemes for National Scholarship Portal

The various schemes under the Central scheme are listed here as follows:

Scholarship schemes for the Department of Empowerment of persons with disabilities.

    1. Pre-matric Scholarship for students with disabilities.
    2. Post matric scholarship for students with disabilities.
    3. Top-class education for a student with disabilities scholarship

Ministry of labor and employment

    1. Scholarship for the education of the wards of various post metric workers like Cine/Beedi/LSDM/IOMC workers
    2. Scholarship for the education of the wards of various pre metric workers like Cine/Beedi/LSDM/IOMC workers
    3. Scholarship for Andhra Pradesh – Aam Admi Bima Yojana Scholarship

Ministry of Minority Affairs

    1. Scholarships for minorities(pre-matric)
    2. Scholarships for minorities(post-matric)
    3. Scholarships for technical and professional courses
  1. The Ministry of social justice and empowerment provides a scholarship for a top-class education scheme for students belonging to the SC community.
  2. Ministry of Tribal Affairs provides national fellowship along with scholarship for the higher education of students belonging to ST community
  3. Department of higher education provides a central sector scheme consisting of scholarships for students studying in college and universities
  4. Department of school education and ministry provides:
    1. A national scheme of incentives (NSIGSE) for Girls of Secondary education
    2. National cum merit scholarships
  5. Ministry of Home Affairs made the prime minister’s scholarship:
    1. For central armed police forces and Assam rifles
    2. Wards of state police personnel who were martyred during Naxal/ terror attacks
  6. Ministry of the railway made prime minister’s scholarship for RPSF/RPF

For the state of Chandigarh

For the state of Chandigarh post-matric scholarship was designed for:

  1. Transgender students
  2. OBC students
  3. Ambedkar scholarship for students belonging to economically backward classes
  4. Pre matric scholarships for the student of class 9th and 10th belonging to SC

For the state of Assam

For the state of Assam post-matric scholarship was designed for:

  1. SC students
  2. OBC students
  3. ST students

For the state of Assam pre-matric scholarship was designed for:

  1. Children’s engaged in cleaning occupations and occupations that are prone to health hazards
  2. For 9th and 10th class students belonging to SC community
  3. OBC students
  4. ST students
  5. ST students of 9th and 10th class

For the state of Uttarakhand

For the state of Uttarakhand pre-matric scholarships were designed for:

  1. Minorities
  2. Disability scholarships
  3. SC students of the state sector
  4. ST students of the state sector
  5. OBC students of both center and state sector (50% population each)
  6. SC students in the center sector
  7. ST students of the center sector

For the state of Uttarakhand post-matric scholarships were designed for:

  1. EBC students
  2. ST students
  3. SC students
  4. OBC students

For the state of Bihar

For the state of Bihar, the scholarships were designed as:

  1. Post- matric scholarship for BC-EBC
  2. Post-matric scholarship for ST students
  3. Post-matric scholarship for SC students

For the state of Karnataka

For the state of Karnataka two scholarships were designed:

  1. Post matric scholarship for the students of SC community
  2. Pre matric scholarship for the students of the ST community which was done under a centrally sponsored scheme

For the state of Arunachal Pradesh

For the state of Arunachal Pradesh scholarships for students were formulated as follows:

  1. Pre-matric scholarship for ST students of 9th and 10th class
  2. Post-matric scholarship for ST students
  3. Award of stipend to ST students

For the state of Meghalaya

For the state of Meghalaya scholarships were designed as:

  1. Pre-matric scholarships for ST students of 9th and 10th class
  2. Post-matric scholarship for ST students

For the state of Himachal Pradesh

For the state of Himachal Pradesh various centrally sponsored scholarships were designed. This included both pre-matric scholarships and post-matric scholarships. Some of the pre-matric scholarships and post-matric scholarships are:

  1. For ST students
  2. For SC students
  3. For OBC students
  4. For economically backward class students – DR. Ambedkar scholarship

Besides this many other scholarships were designed which included:

  1. Ambedkar Medhavi Chakravarti scholarship for SC and OBC students
  2. Mukhiya Mantri Protsahan Yojana
  3. Swami Vivekanand utkrisht Chakravarti yojana
  4. Maharishi Balmiki Chakravarti yojana
  5. Thakur Sen Negi uthkrisht Chakravarti yojana

For the state of Dadra Nagar and Haveli

For the state of Dadra Nagar and Haveli, three pre-matric scholarships were designed for SC, ST and OBC students.

For the state of Jammu and Kashmir

For Jammu and Kashmir, one post-matric scholarship was designed for ST students of J&K.

For the state of Manipur

 For the state of Manipur, one pre-matric and one post-matric scholarship was designed for ST students. The pre-matric scholarship was designed for students belonging to the 9th and 10th class.

Process for knowing the eligibility criteria

For checking whether you are eligible for any scholarship at NSP you can follow the given sequence of steps;

  1. Visit the official website of National Scholarship Portal
  2. Click on the “services” option at the home page
  3. From the drop-down menu choose “scheme eligibility”
  4. Enter the various details asked by the screen. This would include feeding in Domicile State, religion, course level, Gender, caste/community, the annual income of parents, etc.
  5. Carefully enter the Captcha which is being displayed
  6. Click on “check eligibility” button

Various documents required

Some of the important documents need to be submitted while applying for the scholarship at the National Scholarship Portal. These documents are:

  1. The Aadhar Card of the student
  2. Passbook of the bank account
  3. If the student is from a special category then he/she must provide the Caste Certificate
  4. According to the scholarship for which you are applying you must provide the Income Certificate
  5. A valid mobile number
  6. Student’s passport size photograph
  7. Educational qualification certificate of the previous year
  8. A self-declaration certificates

Process for registering on National Scholarship Portal

For registering yourself on NSP you can follow the given sequence of steps:

  1. Visit the official website of National Scholarship portal
  2. Click on the “new registration” option on the website’s home page
  3. Carefully read the instruction displayed on the screen and select the right option.
  4. Click on the continue button
  5. Enter the various details asked on the screen like name, mobile number, date of birth, email Id, gender, bank details, etc.
  6. Carefully and accurately enter the displayed captcha
  7. Click on the “register” option

 Process for checking the sanctioned list of Scholarships

For checking the scheme-wise list of scholarships which are sanctioned you need to follow the given sequence of steps:

  1. Visit the official website of National Scholarship Portal
  2. Click on the “new registration” option on the home page
  3. Now choose the “scheme-wise sanctioned scholarship list” option
  4. Now select the scheme, ministry, academic year, state, application type, and district
  5. Carefully enter the captcha code which is displayed on the screen.
  6. Click on the submit button
  7. The desired list will be displayed on the screen

Process for finding your AISHE code

For knowing your AISHE code you need to follow the given sequence of steps:

  1. Visit the official website of the National Scholarship portal website
  2. Click on the “services” option on the homepage
  3. Choose the “Know your AISHE code” option from the drop-down list
  4. Choose your district, state, name, institution type, and university type.
  5. Submit the details
  6. The desired information will be displayed on the screen.

Process for searching institute or college or ITI

If you want to search for institutes, colleges or ITI on National Scholarship Portal then follow the given sequence of steps:

  1. Visit the official website of National Scholarship Portal
  2. Click on the “Search for Institute/School/ITI” option on the home page
  3. Fill the details like Institution district, state of the institution, institute/college/ITI, and the name of the Institution/college/ITI.
  4. Click on the “Get institution list” option
  5. The desired list will appear on the screen.

Process for finding district wise nodal officer

For a finding of who is the nodal officer of your district follows the given sequence of steps:

  1. Visit the official page of National Scholarship Portal
  2. Click on the “services” option on the homepage
  3. Select the “Nodal officer details” option
  4. Choose the asked details. This includes selecting the ministry, scheme, district, and state.
  5. Accurately enter the captcha code displayed on the screen
  6. Click on the submit button
  7. The desired information will appear on the screen

How to download the National Scholarship Portal mobile application?
