Jared Cannonier has voiced his desire to fight for the UFC middleweight title. At the UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Gastelum, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ secured a hard-fought victory over Kelvin Gastelum in a five-round main event.

After winning the title, Jared Cannonier told ESPN MMA that he wanted a title shot next, but it’s not up to him. The UFC No. 3 middleweight said it was up to the matchmakers to decide whether or not Cannonier can fight for the title.

“I want to say yes [to a title shot]. After such a hard-fought win, I want the title, but you know, it’s not me. It’s up to the couplers and the horns in the UFC. So I just went out there and did my best to send this message, hopefully you got it. I want to fight for the title, but anyway, I love my job. I am blessed to be here and I am glad I took this victory. “

‘The Killa Gorilla’ is glad he went out there and did his best by sending everyone a message. Jared Cannonier closed his statement by saying that he loves his job and is happy about the win against Gastelum.

Jared Cannonier returned to winning ways at the UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Gastelum

Jared Cannonier returned to the Victory Column with a victory over Kelvin Gastelum. The win kept Cannonier’s title hopes alive after previously losing to Robert Whittaker at UFC 254 in 2020.

It remains to be seen whether the UFC will next book “The Killa Gorilla” in a title fight. But as things stand, the next battle for the belt will be the former champion Whittaker in a rematch against Israel Adesanya.
