Minecraft Java Edition players may have seen their favorite YouTubers play custom maps in the past and wondered how to install them for themselves as well.
With thousands of custom maps downloadable online for free, there are thousands of hours of blocky entertainment. For this reason, in this article we are going to detail exactly how players can install custom maps in the Java edition of Minecraft.
Easiest Way to Install Custom Minecraft Maps (Java Edition)
1.) Download the map to be installed.
Players should first select the map they want to install and download.
There are several different websites where players can browse and download thousands of different Minecraft maps. Here are some of the most popular:
2.) Put the map in the Minecraft storage folder
Once the Minecraft map has been downloaded, players should now place it in their Minecraft storage folder.
It’s in different places on different operating systems. If the card came in a .zip or .rar file, the player should use a program such as Winrar or 7Zip to extract it before proceeding with this step.
For Windows users:
Press the Windows key and the r key to open a “run” window at the same time. Enter in this window %App data% as shown in this picture
Now click “OK” after this has been entered and a folder should open up. Find the “.minecraft” folder in this folder and open it.
In this folder look for “saves”Folder and open it. Place the map in this folder so that it looks like this (the name of the map depends on which map was downloaded, of course).
For macOS users:
First navigate to this path: “/ Users / (username) / Library / Application Support / Minecraft / saves /“And then put the downloaded world in this folder as shown in the image below.
3.) Start Minecraft and check if the world appears.
Once the world is installed, it’s time to launch Minecraft and see if the custom map seems playable.
4.) Play the custom map
Once the player has completed all 3 previous steps and done everything correctly, the custom downloaded world is now ready to join to play.
However, players should be sure that the world version matches the currently released Minecraft version. Any discrepancy between the two could create potential problems, including global corruption.
Fortunately, there is an easy way to fix this problem by making sure you are using the correct version of Minecraft that matches the map version. Players who don’t know how to change their version of Minecraft can watch the video below.
