Delhi Capitals star Shreyas Iyer looks great ahead of the second phase of the 2021 IPL. The right-handed batsman played some brilliant shots in a practice game at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai.
Shreyas Iyer uploaded four videos from the training game in the United Arab Emirates on his Instagram story. In one of the clips, Iyer hit the ball out of the park towards the straight long-on region. You can watch the clip here:
Shreyas Iyer led the Delhi Capitals to the summit battle in the last edition of the IPL. Unfortunately, he suffered a shoulder injury ahead of the 2021 IPL season. As a result, he missed the first phase of the tournament, which was played in April and May.
Rishabh Pant ran the Delhi-based franchise in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. The wicket keeper batsman played the skipper role well and made sure that the Capitals finished Phase 1 of the 2021 IPL at the top of the table. The Capitals currently have 12 points from eight games in the 14th edition of the IPL.
Will Shreyas Iyer return as captain of Delhi Capitals in the second phase of the 2021 IPL?
The team management of Delhi Capitals will face a dilemma ahead of the second phase of the IPL 2021. Head coach Ricky Ponting and the rest of the staff in the back room must decide whether Shreyas Iyer returns as captain or Rishabh Pant continues as captain.
Given that the Delhi Capitals have shown brilliant performances under Iyer’s leadership over the past two seasons, the team management may prefer him as captain. However, Rishabh Pant’s excellent performance as a skipper could tempt them to move on with him.
