In Group H of the 2022 World Cup qualification, two teams will meet against Russia on Saturday in the GSP Stadium.
Russia are level with Croatia at the top of the group on seven points, while Cyprus is rooted at the bottom of the table after having played four games.
Cyprus were denied their second consecutive win in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying when they were beaten 3-0 against Malta.
In a game where Costas Soteriou was given his marching orders, Cain Attard made a headline-grabbing performance when he scored in both halves to inspire Malta on all three.
It was the third loss on the go for Nikos Kostenoglou’s side, beaten in their last two friendlies against Ukraine and Hungary.
Cyprus have only won one out of their last seven games in all competitions. They are currently bottom of the group with four points, have drawn and lost five games.
Meanwhile, Russia played a goalless draw against 2018 finalists Croatia on home turf on Wednesday.
This followed a bad run at the European Championship, where they had to accept an elimination from the group stage after three points from three games in Group B.
With seven points from the last three qualifying games, Russia is currently at the top of Group H with Croatia.
Valeri Karpin’s men are currently four of their last five games without a win in all competitions. They will improve on this run as they continue their hunt for a spot in Qatar.
