While in conversation with Chris Van Vliet, Murphy announced that he wanted to be part of 205 Live when he was part of NXT. He had to secretly speak to Adam Pearce to join the cruiserweight division:

“I’ve wanted to go to cruiserweights for a long time. I was yelled at, I was kicked out of meetings for mentioning it. And then I secretly reached Adam Pearce on Twitter. I said, ‘Hey man, I see you I’m doing this tournament. (I) Don’t know if all seats are ready, but I’d like to throw my name in the hat. Weight is not a problem. And I just aired it. And I was yelled at and out of meetings for that cruiserweight been thrown, “said Murphy.

Murphy revealed that WWE producer Ryan Katz contacted him a few days before making his 205 live debut. He also stated that he had to weigh himself to reach the 205 pound weight limit.
