Barcelona made quite a bit of news on the day of the transfer deadline. They have had to go through some tough months and it remains to be seen how much they will suffer afterwards. The club’s payroll was cut, but Joan Laporta and Co. were unable to unload all of the players they wanted to get off their books.

Lionel Messi’s jersey with the number 10 on Ansu Fati
Amid requests to withdraw the number 10 shirt Lionel Messi wore at the club, Barcelona have passed it on to youngster Ansu Fati. The 18-year-old is one of the most promising young talents in football and had an excellent start to the 2020/21 season.
He was unlucky enough to have subsequently sustained a knee injury, which made him miss most of the season. Fati is about to make a return to full recovery and will put on the number 10 jersey when he next plays.
In the 2020/21 season, Ansu Fati scored five goals and provided four assists in ten La Liga and Champions League games.
Emerson Royal moves to Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur have signed Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal on a five-year deal. Barcelona sign Luuk de Jong on loan
Barcelona have signed Seville striker Luuk de Jong on loan for a season. The Catalans do not pay a loan fee but pay De Jong’s full wages. Barcelona have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old striker scored just nine goals in 48 games for the Andalusians last season. He had fallen into the pecking order and Seville was looking for a potential candidate for him.
Barcelona reportedly switched to Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani and Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix before choosing the Dutchman. Ronald Koeman remains keen to strengthen his front line after Lionel Messi’s departure.
With Griezmann also leaving the club on the deadline, Barcelona had to sign a substitute striker.
