Barcelona allegedly tried to block Lionel Messis proposed move to PSG in a last-ditch effort to keep the Argentine superstar. Elsewhere, Sergio Aguero has provided an update on its plans for the future.
With that in mind, here are the transfer news from Barcelona on August 8, 2021.
Barcelona are trying to block Lionel Messi’s upcoming move
Barcelona have reportedly filed a complaint with the European Commission to prevent Lionel Messi’s upcoming move to French giant Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona believe the French club is violating Financial Fair Play guidelines and have submitted a report to the appeals court that allegedly read:
“PSG’s ratio in terms of financial fair play is worse than that of Barcelona. In 2019/20, 99% of PSG’s income was used for salaries, compared to 54% for Barcelona.”
While the odds are slim, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona’s appeal will actually block Lionel Messi’s move to PSG.
Sergio Agüero stays with Barcelona for the time being
Sergio Agüero will stay at Barcelona for at least the 2021/22 season. The former Manchester City striker joined the club as a free agent earlier this summer.
The Argentine is reportedly already looking for a move from Barcelona after the club failed to sign Lionel Messi again. However, according to SPORT’s Albert Roge, Aguero was quoted as saying:
“Don’t worry, you have me all year round.”
This would mean Aguero is ready to stay with the club for the coming season but will consider his options at the end of the season.
Lionel Messi has yet to finalize PSG deal
Lionel Messi still hasn’t finalized his upcoming deal with French giant PSG. The Argentine has reportedly agreed personal terms with the club but is still discussing the final details of the contract.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reported that Lionel Messi is not yet flying to Paris to receive his medical treatment. However, the Italian journalist believes it is only a matter of time before the Argentine becomes a PSG player.
Lionel Messi confirmed PSG’s interest in their latest press conference for Barcelona. He said:
“(PSG) is honestly a way to reach those heights, but I haven’t confirmed anything from anyone. When the press release went out, I had a lot of calls and a lot of clubs were interested. At the moment I’m” I haven’t closed anything, but we talk about many things. “
